Why a listing has no email address

Map listings do not carry email addresses. Ours come from the business’s own website — so no website usually means no email. What to do about it.

Some rows arrive with Email empty. This is the most common data question we get, and the answer is structural rather than a fault.

Map listings do not contain emails

Google, Apple and Bing publish a name, an address, a phone number, hours, a rating and a website link. None of them publishes an email address. Every email in FindAndClose is found by visiting the business's own website and reading what it publishes there.

So the chain is: map listing → website → email. Break any link and the cell is empty.

The five reasons a cell is empty

ReasonHow commonWhat it looks like
No website on the listingThe biggest single causeWebsite and Website (root url) are empty too
Website has a contact form and no addressVery common in some marketsWebsite is filled, Email is not — but Contact page 1 often is
Email is inside an image or obfuscated by scriptCommon on older sitesSame as above
Site was unreachable at crawl timeOccasionalSame as above; may fill on a later pass
Record is suppressed after a removal requestRareContact fields empty, row still present

Filter for it instead of hoping

Turn on Has email before you export. The filter tests the real value, not the mask, so the count you see is exact and you only pay for rows that have one. Fewer rows, same per-row price, a much better list.

Has website is a good second-best

If your market genuinely has thin email coverage, export with Has website instead and use the Chrome extension on the sites that matter. It reads contact details from the page you are looking at and pushes them into your account.

Email coverage varies hugely by market

It is a property of the market, not of the tool. Categories that sell online almost always publish an address; trades that get work by phone often do not. Northern Europe publishes email more freely than some other regions. The honest way to find out is to check the count with and without the filter in your market — it costs nothing.

What we do not do

We do not guess. There is no firstname.lastname@domain pattern generation, no "likely" addresses, and no catch-all inference. A guessed address bounces, damages your sending reputation and is not personal data anyone published. Empty is the honest answer, and it is the answer you get.
